The North Carolina Tar Heels baseball program could be on the verge of a significant staff addition. According to a report from D1Baseball.com’s Kendall Rogers, Liberty head coach Scott Jackson has resigned from his position and is expected to join the Tar Heels.

Jackson has spent the last eight seasons with Liberty, where he has compiled a 246-181 (.576) overall record and has seen the Flames through multiple conference moves.

The Flames made three NCAA Regional appearances under Jackson, doing so in 2019, 2021 and 2022. The team hasn’t quite had that level of success the last two years, finishing each season under the .500 mark.

But Jackson’s coaching acumen speaks for itself. He has plenty of ties to North Carolina, too.

Prior to taking the Liberty head coaching gig, Scott Jackson was an assistant coach for the Tar Heels from 2009-16. He has other stints at Liberty (2008, pitching coach), UNC Wilmington (2003-007, pitching coach), Campbell (2002, assistant), Barton (2001, assistant) and Wofford (2000, assistant).
