The North Carolina Tar Heels will wear throwback uniforms in Week 3, they announced via Twitter on Thursday. The Tar Heels (1-1) are set to take on Virginia at 7:30 p.m. ET in Chapel Hill.

The Carolina blue uniforms with the Jordan logo are among some of the best color schemes in the country. UNC will match their blue jerseys with white pants to complete the set.

The No. 21 Tar Heels got off to a rough start in 2021. They fell in the opening week to Virginia Tech, 17-10. The team bounced back the following week with a 59-17 drubbing of Georgia State.

UNC is led by quarterback Sam Howell, who entered the season with Heisman hopes. After a rough outing against the Hokies, he passed for 352 yards and three touchdowns in Week 2.

The Mack Brown-led Tar Heels lost running backs Javonte Williams and Michael Carter, both of whom rushed for 1,000 yards in 2020. They also saw departures from their top two receivers: Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome.

As such, they may not be as good as their preseason ranking of No. 10 indicated. UNC luckily avoids playing Clemson this year, but still has upcoming games against No. 24 Miami and No. 12 Notre Dame.

The Cavaliers enter the contest at 2-0 following a pair of lopsided victories. Quarterback Brennan Armstrong was spectacular during a 42-14 victory against Illinois in Week 2. He finished 27-of-36 passing for 405 yards, five touchdowns and one interception.

Jelani Woods led the team with five catches for 122 yards and a touchdown.

If the Tar Heels hope to win, they will need Howell to be the quarterback many predicted he could prior to this season. Thanks to the throwback uniforms, North Carolina will certainly come out in style, but can they offer substance as well?

We’ll find out this upcoming Saturday in what should be a very intriguing ACC matchup.
