Mack Brown confirms season-ending injury for Raymond Vohasek
North Carolina football got a piece of bad news when head coach Mack Brown took the podium on Tuesday, learning that defensive lineman Raymond Vohasek will miss the remainder of the season with an upper body injury. The required surgery will end the senior’s college career, but he is expected to remain with the team throughout the remainder of the year.
Mack Brown started his media session by addressing the news, offering high praise for the veteran player who opted to return in 2022 rather than test the NFL draft last season.
“Very disappointed for Ray,” said Brown. “He’s one of our best players, a great young guy, and he decided to come back. And just an injury that will keep him out, he’ll have to have an operation. … He will not be involved on the field. He’ll stay like British (Brooks), try to help us, but we’ve had some tough injuries this year. And he’s such a great player and a tremendous leader for us.

“We will miss him and it will hurt our team, but more than that we hurt for him because that’s a tough one for a senior that came back to obviously help his team and have a better chance to play in the NFL. So he’ll get his operation, he’ll rehab and try to get ready for pro day.”
Over his time in Chapel Hill, Vohasek has recorded 96 tackles with 5.5 sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss. The key defensive lineman was unranked entering college but made a major contribution by playing in 36 career games.
