Mack Brown shares Kobe Paysour had another operation on injured foot
North Carolina wide receiver Kobe Paysour experienced a rotten run of injury luck last fall when he missed games thanks to two separate injuries to each foot.
Paysour is recovering fine, according to head coach Mack Brown. However, he is absent from the team’s spring game, which prompted questions from reporters on why the receiver didn’t participate.
“He just had another operation,” said Mack. “He had it tweaked again so he’s getting it fixed,” he said of Paysour’s foot injury. Brown further explained that the operation wasn’t a huge deal and shouldn’t affect the wideout’s summer.
“It’s just, he had soreness from the other operation so it’s nothing big. It was something to go in and relieve some pressure or something, so it wasn’t a big deal. But he’ll be fine for summer workouts and should be back ready to go.”
One reporter noted that he’d seen Paysour practicing at various times throughout the spring, and Brown confirmed that he did give it a go, but ultimately wasn’t totally 100%.
“Yeah, and it was sore. So when he came back and he started running and it was still sore, we said let’s go sure make sure everything’s well. So they just cleaned it up.”
Mack Brown also noted the mental aspect of having to recover from injuries to both feet in the same season.

“He’s had a load on him with both the same bone in each of the two feet getting broken against air. He didn’t touch anybody. That’s a load mentally.”
But things are looking up for Kobe Paysour, who is on schedule to recover nicely from this recent small operation and should have a full summer and preseason to gear up for the 2024 fall.
“He’ll get to work all summer,” says Brown, and that goes for his whole team health-wise. “In fact, everybody, everybody on our team should be released and ready to go. At this point, for fall practice, we don’t have anybody who should be limited.”
Good news for the Tar Heels.
On the 2023 season, Paysour caught 22 passes for 282 receiving yards and three touchdowns and in just five total games, more than 50 yards per contest. So, after recording 324 yards and four touchdowns in 12 appearances in 2022, then posting strong numbers in limited 2023 action, it’s safe to assume he’ll be a massive weapon for the Heels in 2024.
If Kobe Paysour can fully recover, he’ll be one of the stars of the WR room this coming fall.
