Former Michigan running back Benjamin Hall has committed to North Carolina via the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Hall spent two seasons at Michigan but only appeared in three games during his true freshman season. He made eight appearances last season and finished the year with 29 carries for 72 yards. He also recorded three catches for 12 yards.

Hall played high school football at North Cobb (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,023 overall player and No. 70 running back in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

North Carolina is adding a multi-faceted running back to its roster. In November last year, Benjamin Hall described his game.

“I like to think I can do a little bit of everything,” Hall said. “You turn on the tape, and you can see I can catch out of the backfield, can run down hill, make plays with the ball in my hand. I don’t think there’s anything I can’t do, so I think that my biggest thing is just being able to do a little bit of everything.”

However, Hall doesn’t only want to be known as a talented player on the field. He also wants to be a leader.

“You hear Coach Moore crediting me for going hard in practice — that’s the way I like to lead, going as hard as I can and bringing other guys with me,” Hall said. “… I just go out there every day and go as hard as I can. I think that’s been my story here — just working hard. So just continuing to do that day in and day out, and just seeing what I can do with it.”

Hall is the 26th player North Carolina has added via the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. The Tar Heels have experienced significant roster turnover this offseason with the hiring of legendary head coach Bill Belichick.

North Carolina has lost 31 players to the portal. However, it still is ranked No. 20 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Fans are excited to see what Belichick is capable of in his first year at the helm of the program.
