WATCH: North Carolina baseball hoists 2022 ACC Tournament Championship trophy
The North Carolina Tar Heels are truly one of the hottest teams in college baseball and they ran through the 2022 ACC Tournament like a hot knife running through butter. On Sunday, they continued their hot streak and defeated the N.C. State Wolfpack 9-5 in claiming the 2022 ACC Baseball Tournament Championship crown. Freshman standout Vance Honeycutt blasted two home runs in propelling the Heels to the huge victory. He had five RBIs before the second inning was finished and earned Most Valuable Player honors. The ACC Tournament crown is the eighth in program history for North Carolina. UNC has now won seven straight games, 12 of their last 13, and 15 of their last 17.
The title game appearance was the first for North Carolina since winning the ACC Tournament crown in 2019. The Tar Heels improved to 38-19 overall on the season. N.C. State was the first double-digit seeded team to reach the ACC Tournament final.
Vance Honeycutt hit his 19th home run of the season in the first inning, a two-run blast that put the ‘Heels up 2-1 after one inning. Then in the bottom of the second, North Carolina broke the game open. Angel Zarate drilled a two-run single to make the score 4-1. Then Danny Serretti also drove in another run with a single for the ‘Heels to make it 5-1.

Then Honeycutt blasted another two-run home run over the left field wall to make the score 8-1. North Carolina’s pitching also performed well — Max Carlson struck out six batters in five innings of work.
Vance Honeycutt made history of his own for North Carolina
The uber-talented freshman has belted 20 home runs this season for North Carolina. He also has 20 steals, becoming the first player in Tar Heels program history to have 20 homers and 20 steals. The Salisbury, North Carolina native set the school record for home runs by a freshman earlier last week.
