North Carolina beats Colorado and Georgia Tech for WR Evan Haynes
Evan Haynes had successful official visits to Boulder, Atlanta and Chapel Hill earlier this summer, but after taking some time away from on-campus visits, he has decided to commit to the North Carolina Tar Heels.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver out of Roswell (Ga.) Fellowship Christian School was offered by Mack Brown and his coaching staff a little over a year ago. Haynes has visited Chapel Hill over half a dozen times and he feels good about his decision.
“North Carolina was the second school to offer me, so they got on me early and they have been very consistent,” Haynes told On3. “Being in Chapel Hill reminds me of where I live now. I like how it feels, I like the vibe and it feels like home.
“It is a great school with a great education and I love the fans. North Carolina competes across the board in all sports. They have great lacrosse, field hockey, baseball, basketball and all sports… their fans show up. North Carolina has die-hard fans and it is going to be great to play there.
“North Carolina had what I was looking for. The education, the environment and the feeling.”
Haynes made his final decision late in July, but North Carolina set the pace for much of the process.
“They always had a little lead for me. After offering me last June, we had those relationships and I always liked them a lot. I took my official visits and it just clicked. I knew it was North Carolina for sure after the official visits, but going into those, they had the lead in my mind.”

Haynes is excited to play for the North Carolina coaching staff
Visiting North Carolina around seven times, Haynes got to know a lot of people in Chapel Hill. He is familiar with the coaching staff, the support staff and others. He feels very comfortable around who he will be spending the most time with.
“Coach Lonnie Galloway is a great guy,” Haynes said. “He coached Josh Downs and me and my family are close with the Downs, so we went up there to see Josh. That is where it started with coach Galloway. Even before he was recruiting me, he had made a strong impression.
“Coach Galloway is about family, I like how he coaches and he really knows how to coach wide receivers. He has put guys into the NFL and I am excited about playing for him and being coached by him. He has a great vibe about him.”
The same can be said about the head coach.
“Coach Brown is a great coach who keeps it real. He is all about helping his players, but being genuine and real about it. He is an honest man, he is great for his players and he has proven he can win.”
