Grayson McCall Commits to NC State

NC State head coach Dave Doeren had some harsh words about North Carolina during his postgame speech following this year’s rivalry game. UNC head coach Mack Brown made it clear this week that he did not appreciate Doeren’s remarks.

NC State beat UNC 39-20 on Nov. 25 for its third straight win over the Tar Heels.

After the game, Doeren was captured by the ACC Network saying: “Hey, you know, it’s been 1,460 days since those pieces of shit beat us.”

Mack Brown responded to those comments earlier this week.

“In our last ballgame with a rival school, after the game, the head coach of that school called our players a piece of shit,” Mack Brown said. “I’ve never heard something like that before and I’m disappointed. I thought it was classless. It’s not true.”

Brown was not happy with the way North Carolina played against the Wolfpack. But he doesn’t believe that gives Doeren the right to talk about UNC the way he did.

“No. 1, we didn’t play well in the game. We didn’t coach well in the game. That’s been very well documented. I got that. But you don’t call kids a piece of shit,” Brown said. “I’ve addressed it with our team. I apologized to them. These kids are one of the top academic groups in America. They’ve got an award for AFCA’s top 13. They’ve won a Coastal Division. They’ve won a bunch of games. They’ve been to an Orange Bowl. They’ve been to five straight bowls. They represent us well.

“And from me speaking for them and their parents, they really didn’t appreciate being called a piece of shit. Never heard that before and very disappointing. But it is what it is, and we’ll continue to work hard to try to be better.”

Mack Brown addresses if he saw a common theme in North Carolina’s losses

The loss to NC State was one of four losses in the final six regular season games for the Tar Heels.

North Carolina coach Mack Brown was recently asked if he saw a common theme in those losses.

“I don’t think there’s a common thread. I keep looking for ways to win more than eight games,” said Brown following North Carolina’s 39-20 loss to NC State to finish the season. “We got a chance to win nine again, which is pretty good around here, in the bowl game. But [we] had a great game against Duke two weeks ago. We played a good team tonight. They’re hard to beat over here, and they played better than we did.

“I did a poor job preparing this team to play, or we wouldn’t have looked that bad. And that’s me and a group of assistant coaches. [It] has nothing to do with the kids because they played their guts out the second half; that’s just it.”
