Florida State and North Carolina are battling to stay alive at the College World Series on Tuesday. UNC coach Scott Forbes joined ESPN during the broadcast and shared his team’s plan on the mound for the rest of the game against the Seminoles.

Forbes spoke with ESPN ahead of the top of the third inning with Florida State leading 1-0. He shared that UNC will not hesitate to use its bullpen when necessary.

“Obviously our bullpen’s ready,” Scott Forbes said. “We’re going to use whoever we need to use, whenever we need to use them, to keep this game where it needs to be.”

Aidan Haugh got the start for North Carolina, but unfortunately for Forbes, things went downhill after the interview.

Haugh exited the game with the bases loaded and one out after issuing a pair of walks and hitting a FSU batter in the top of the third inning. He was replaced by Matthew Matthijs.

Two of the runners that were on base when Haugh exited the game went on to score, giving Florida State a 3-0 lead. Haugh was charged with 3 runs allowed in 2 1/3 innings of work.

While North Carolina would have loved to have gotten more out of its starting pitcher, the good news is that the bullpen is rested. UNC had Monday off to rest.

Scott Forbes talks UNC offensive approach vs. Florida State

North Carolina coach Scott Forbes also spoke with ESPN about his offense during Tuesday’s game against Florida State.

Forbes wants to see his club to a better job with its situational hitting the rest of the way.

“We’ve just got to keep stringing good at bats together,” he said.

North Carolina had a pair of hits in the second inning but has nothing to show for it.

After Anthony Donofrio opened the inning with an infield single, Jackson Van De Brake grounded into a double play. Luke Stevenson then followed with a single, before Gavin Gallaher grounded out to the pitcher on a full count, ending a wasted opportunity.

“Like there’s a 3-2 count right there, you’ve gotta win those counts,” Forbes said. “Obviously [Anthony] Donofrio legging out that single and then we ground into a double play. With the way the wind’s blowing right now you’ve got to try to move the ball and hit some line drives.”
