Moments after Bandido defeated Chris Jericho to capture the Ring of Honor World Championship at AEW Dynasty on Sunday night — the popular luchador took to the crowd in celebration to embrace his mother. Right behind him, a North Carolina fan decked in UNC gear boasting the previous night’s Final Four score: Houston 70, Duke 67.

The event took place in Philadelphia of all places, and neither wrestler has any known ties to either program. Jericho is from Canada, while Bandido was born in Mexico. It simply appears to be a well-timed troll from the fan in Carolina blue.

Of course, the comments are filled with Duke fans reminding the UNC fan that his squad lost to the Blue Devils on three seperate occasions during the 2024-25 season. Not to mention, Duke made the Final Four in the first place as a No. 1 overall seed.

Still, the final score of that game will likely stick with Duke for quite a while. After all, the Blue Devils led Houston by 14 points with just over eight minutes left in regulation and appeared to have the game in-hand before Houston mounted its historic comeback.

It started with L.J. Cryer‘s made 3-pointer to cut the lead to 11. From there, they’d score the next 10 points of the game to cut the lead to four points with just over four minutes remaining. From there, it was anybody’s ballgame.

A pair of free throws from J’Wan Roberts gave Houston its first lead of the second half with 19 seconds half in regulation. Duke star Cooper Flagg was unable to make the turnaround jumper with eight seconds remaining. Cryer sunk a pair of free throws on the other end to extend the lead, and Duke was unable to tie the game at the buzzer and send the Final Four matchup to overtime.

It’s the second-straight Final Four matchup that ends in heartbreak for the Blue Devils. North Carolina fans will remember that matchup back in 2022, as the Tar Heels bested the Blue Devils to advance to the national championship game that year. UNC would be the eventual national runners-up after losing to Kansas in the national championship game.

Both Duke and North Carolina programs ultimately head into the offseason falling short of their ultimate goal of winning the NCAA Tournament this season. Looking to revamp their rosters in the offseason, it’s safe to say that fans on both sides are already eagerly awaiting next season’s matchups.
