North Carolina Tar Heels linebacker Ashton Woods has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed the news.

Woods played high school football at Walton (GA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 567 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Woods came to Chapel Hill with a ton of potential, but he wasn’t able to get on the field during his time with North Carolina. Wherever he ends up in 2025, he’ll be hoping to take the next step in his college football career and truly becoming the defensive player he was meant to be.

As a recruit, Woods was courted by a number of big schools, but Baylor seemed to be the runner-up for his services. In addition to the Bears, he also heard from the Auburn Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners and Wake Forest Demon Deacons, according to his On3 Profile.

Woods is the latest entry into the portal during this cycle for North Carolina. That’s also all amidst the coaching change to Bill Belichick. He joins QB Conner Harrell along with RBs Caleb Hood and Jordan LouieIOL Zach GreenbergDL Travis ShawCB Tyrane StewartLB Amare CampbellLS Garrett Jordan, and four offensive tackles in Jakiah LeftwichAndrew RosinskiHoward Sampson, and Eli Sutton. Four of those have since committed elsewhere in Greenberg (James Madison), Leftwich (UCF), Rosinski (Georgia Tech), and Sampson (Texas Tech).
