North Carolina QB Michael Merdinger enters the NCAA Transfer Portal
North Carolina QB Michael Merdinger has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. On3’s Pete Nakos reported the news on Thursday.
Merdinger just finished his first collegiate season in Chapel Hill. With that, he had not appeared or recorded any statistics for the Tar Heels as a true freshman.
Merdinger, a native of Fort Lauderdale, played high school football at Cardinal Gibbons. He was the No. 918 overall recruit there as a three-star prospect in the 2024 cycle. He also rated as a Top-60 QB in the class and a Top-150 player in the state of Florida. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He joined UNC then as one of the signees in a Top-30 recruiting class for them last cycle.
Now, Merdinger is the latest entry into the portal during this cycle for North Carolina. That’s also all amidst the coaching change to Bill Belichick. He joins QB Conner Harrell along with RBs Caleb Hood and Jordan Louie, IOL Zach Greenberg, DL Travis Shaw, CB Tyrane Stewart, LB Amare Campbell, LS Garrett Jordan, and four offensive tackles in Jakiah Leftwich, Andrew Rosinski, Howard Sampson, and Eli Sutton. Four of those have since committed elsewhere in Greenberg (James Madison), Leftwich (UCF), Rosinski (Georgia Tech), and Sampson (Texas Tech).
