British Brooks has traveled a long road during his time in Chapel Hill. After overcoming so much, though, his 2022 season ended before it ever began after suffering a leg injury in fall camp. However, his career isn’t over as Mack Brown announced today that Brooks shared his intent to return to North Carolina in 2023.

Brown opened Monday’s press conference with Brooks’ news. He shared how far the Gastonia, NC native has come and how he pleased he is for everyone involved that he will be back with the Tar Heels next year.

“British Brooks came to us and said that he wants to come back for another year. So that’s good for him. He’s an amazing young man. He’s overcome so much through getting in school, being such a tremendous student, walking on, starting, becoming a captain, getting a scholarship, then getting hurt. Now he wants to come back and finish,” said Brown. “He said he just loves this team and he wants to be a part of it…He said I just want to play. So good for him, good for Carolina football, and he’s just a special young man.”

Most of Brooks’ action early on at UNC was on special teams. He saw more and more time as progressed and ehe ventually broke out to end last season. Brooks rushed 31 times for 295 yards and four touchdowns in 2021. His momentum coming into this season was abruptly cut, though, after the injury.

Brooks is a great addition for Brown to already have locked into his backfield for next fall. With him out, UNC has had to run by committee during the start of this season. Having an experienced leader like Brooks back will be invaluable in a year’s time once he returns to the field.
