North Carolina defense snap impressive Boston College streak in victory
The North Carolina defense flexed their muscles in their 72-64 victory over Boston College Tuesday night. The Tar Heels were able to do something to the Golden Eagles no team has done to them in over a decade; that is, hold them to zero made three-point makes in a game.
North Carolina’s defense suffocated Boston College’s offense from beyond the ark, allowing just six attempts in the game. Failing to register a three-point make effectively ends the Golden Eagles’ streak of 420 games with a make dating all the back to November of 2009. Surprisingly, the last time it happened, Boston College was able to pick up the victory with the 82-77 victory over Providence. In that game, Boston College was 0-10 from beyond the arc.
North Carolina’s defense didn’t do it alone. The Tar Heels’ offense was firing on all cylinders, especially in the second half. After struggling to score in the first half, North Carolina guards Caleb Love and RJ Davis, scoring three and four points, respectively, combined for 27 of the Tar Heels’ 41 points in the second half. And not to be outdone by his dynamic duo in the backcourt, star senior forward Armando Bacot had another solid performance on the night. Bacot led all scorers in the game with 20 points. He was also the games leading rebounder with 16 on the night, which was good enough for him to pick up double-double number 60 of his career. He’s now tied with north Carolina’s great Billy Cunningham for the most career double-doubles in North Carolina Men’s Basketball history.
Armando Bacot ties Billy Cunningham for most double-doubles in Tar Heels history
Tar Heels star forward Armando Bacot is continuing to rack up the accolades with the program. And in Tuesday’s game against the Boston College Golden Eagles, Bacot inched himself a little closer to becoming the Tar Heels’ all-time double-double leader after tying current record holder Billy Cunningham at 60.
