UNC wide receiver Antoine Green to miss significant time with injury
Fall camp is underway across the country as teams begin to ramp up for the start of the 2022 season. Unfortunately for UNC, veteran wide receiver Antoine Green appears to have suffered an injury that will keep him out for some significant time.
According to Spectrum NC 1 reporter Evan Abramson, Green will miss 6-10 weeks with an “upper-body injury,” which will keep him out throughout the rest of training camp. Abramson also noted that UNC head coach Mack Brown hopes that Green will be able to return by the team’s Week 5 contest at home against Notre Dame.
Green caught just 16 passes over the course of his first three years in Chapel Hill from 2018-2020, but he broke out last season with 31 receptions for 612 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 19.4 yards per reception, becoming an explosive downfield threat in the Tar Heels offense.

Last season, Green’s 612 receiving yards were the second best total on UNC’s team. Josh Downs led the way with 101 receptions, 1,335 yards and eight touchdowns. After making a big leap in 2021, Green was poised for another major role in 2022. As UNC’s quarterback moves forward between Jacolby Criswell and Drake Maye, Green has become a more complete and consistent option out wide. And that has caught the eye of UNC assistant Lonnie Galloway.
“Just his mental part of the game,” said Galloway. “He got here, highly recruited, broke his leg against Syracuse and then just getting back and overcoming that. The thing that I love about Antoine is the way he has approached this spring and coming off of the season. Hard worker, he’s getting stronger. You can see it. He wants to be an elite guy and now the next thing for him is just to take that step. He’s one of the leaders in my room and I’m very excited to see him operate.”
