North Carolina WR, 2025 signee Evan Haynes enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

WR Evan Haynes has entered his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. That comes per reporting by On3 on Thursday afternoon.
It’s been less than a year since Haynes committed to the Tar Heels as part of their incoming recruiting class under Mack Brown. He chose UNC over other offers from schools like Colorado and Georgia Tech as well as Georgia, Miami, and UAB among other scholarships. However, after going through spring practice with the program now under Bill Belichick, Haynes will be headed elsewhere in the portal.
“North Carolina was the second school to offer me, so they got on me early and they have been very consistent. Being in Chapel Hill reminds me of where I live now. I like how it feels, I like the vibe and it feels like home,” Haynes told On3 at the time of his commitment back at the start of August. “North Carolina had what I was looking for. The education, the environment and the feeling.”
“They always had a little lead for me. After offering me last June, we had those relationships and I always liked them a lot. I took my official visits and it just clicked,” said Haynes. “I knew it was North Carolina for sure after the official visits, but going into those, they had the lead in my mind.”

Haynes, a native of Milton, Georgia, played his high school football at Fellowship Christian in Roswell. He rated as the No. 933 overall recruit as a three-star in the 2025 cycle. He also ranked as a Top-150 wide receiver and just outside the Top-100 in the state. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. That made him a Top-10 signee of the 29 in total to come to North Carolina this offseason still amidst the coaching change from Brown to Belichick.
Now, Haynes is the latest transaction in the transfer portal for UNC. The Tar Heels have lost several players during both cycles with Haynes being the latest this spring. DE Beau Atkinson (Ohio State), QB Ryan Browne (Purdue), WR Christian Hamilton (West Virginia), and CB DeAndre Boykins (Oklahoma State) have also transferred, and since committed elsewhere, in the past week.
