LOOK: Oreo cheers on North Carolina's ACC Tournament run with Pete Nance cookie bag
Ahead of North Carolina’s win over Boston College in their first ACC Tournament action, Oreo shared a hilarious Pete Nance bag of cookies. Nance has become a sort of unofficial ambassador for lemon-flavored Oreo cookies this season, after a story between him and coach Hubert Davis became public.
On Wednesday, Nance got some love from the Oreo company itself as they posted an image of a lemon Oreo bag with Nance on the packaging — calling them “Pete Oreos” with the caption “When life (Oreo) gives you (Pete) lemons.”
Pete Nance Oreo origins
Nance told his coach that his favorite cookie was lemon Oreos during a conversation they had in his office, leading to Davis getting him a bag before a game against then-No. 6-ranked Virginia. The Tar Heels won the game — with Nance scoring 22 points — and the lemon Oreo cookie became somewhat of a rallying point for North Carolina as they came down the stretch of the season.
“Right after the game, I walked into the locker room and said, ‘Guys, you have no idea what allowed us to be pretty good today,’” Davis said after that game. “I went into the locker and threw the Oreos. He didn’t eat it yet. Threw it right there on the ground. Coach May said, ‘You’ve got to go to Harris Teeter today.’ So as soon as I leave you guys, I’m going to Harris Teeter to go get some more lemon Oreo cookies.”

Now, the Tar Heels are hoping for some more lemon Oreo magic as they prepare to play the tournament’s No. 2 seed Virginia.
Unfortunately, star big man Armando Bacot’s health became a huge question for the team and fans before the rematch after their win over Boston College. In the first half, Bacot suffered a non-contact ankle injury after rolling his ankle that forced him out of the game and into the locker room. Bacot returned for the second half in limited capacity, helping spur the team on to a dominant win.
