Pat Narduzzi says Mack Brown is 'great for college football'
Ahead of a primetime showdown in Chapel Hill, Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi heaped praise on North Carolina head man Mack Brown, the oldest — and one of the most accomplished — active head coach coach in the sport.
The 71-year-old Brown is in his second stint as the Tar Heels head coach, first holding the job through the end of the 1980s and most of the 90s before spending the next 15 years at Texas. Now he’s back in ACC country and has Narduzzi singing his praises.
“I just think he’s a legend. I love him,” Narduzzi said. “I just think he’s great for college football. Period. I’m glad he’s out of the media industry and back in to college football because he’s good for college football.”

Brown is 27-18 since coming back to Chapel Hill prior to the 2019 season, and the only losing season he posted came last year after a bowl loss dropped the Tar Heels to 6-7 on the year.

Now with Drake Maye at the helm of the offense, North Carolina is off to a roaring 6-1 start and right in the thick of the ACC Coastal race. The Tar Heels love to spread out opposing defenses, letting Maye make plays for himself when he isn’t feeding the array of high-level playmakers.
But it’s not really scheme or anything that Brown is having his team do on the field that had Narduzzi lauding the North Carolina coach. Instead, it’s Brown’s throwback style that impresses Pitt’s head man.
“He gets it. He’s old school. And just listening, hanging out with him at coaches meetings, and all that,” Narduzzi said. “And he gets it, he’s old school, and that’s what I love about him. He’s — he does it the right way.”
