Purdue transfer QB Ryan Browne commits to North Carolina
Ever since they recently hired former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, the North Carolina Tar Heels have not been shy about making moves in the transfer portal. And on Thursday evening, the ‘Heels landed another football prospect. Purdue transfer quarterback Ryan Browne officially committed to UNC, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Over the course of two seasons at Purdue, Ryan Browne played in nine games. Over the course of that time, he completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 636 yards on 11.6 yards per completion. He also threw four touchdowns and four interceptions. Purdue also frequently used Browne as a running threat and he carried the ball 71 times for 240 yards.
In his most productive individual game, Ryan Browne helped to nearly upset Illinois. In that game, he threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for another 118 yards.
Ryan Browne played his high school football at Milford Academy in New York where he was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 54th-ranked quarterback and the 1,095th-ranked player overall in that recruiting cycle.
In 2023, Ryan Browne appeared in only one game and was able to use his redshirt. That leaves him with three seasons of eligibility moving forward.

For the past two seasons, Purdue has been coached by Ryan Walters. He accumulated a record of 5-19. That included a difficult 2024 season where the Boilermakers went 1-11, were shutout three times, gave up more than 50 points four times, and only beat an FCS opponent. Following the year, Purdue parted ways with Walters.
At the time that Ryan Browne entered the Transfer Portal, Purdue had not yet named a new head coach. He is one of several players to enter the portal following the season for Purdue.
