According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, North Carolina is targeting Billy Miller for a spot on their staff under head coach Bill Belichick. Miller is currently the head coach at IMG Academy, one of the best high school football programs out there.

“North Carolina is targeting Billy Miller, the head coach at high school powerhouse IMG Academy, for a position on Bill Belichick’s coaching staff, sources tell me and @InsideCarolina,” Zenitz said via X.

Miller has been with IMG Academy for over a decade now, becoming the program’s head coach ahead of the 2014 season. He was previously working in the NFL and was hired by Belichick and the New England Patriots to be a special teams coaching assistant. However, once IMG Academy called, Miller decided to jump to the high school ranks.

Tampa Bay was Miller’s last official job before leaving for IMG Academy. Working with the special teams unit is where he was placed at the time. Greg Schiano was the Buccanneers’ head coach when being hired, hiring him directly away from Rutgers.

Since Miller arrived at IMG, the record has been incredible. Just seven losses are on the resume, spanning 11 seasons. Not many other high schools have produced the talent they have either, continually pumping out elite-level players.

Adding somebody with the high school relations such as Miller would be a massive victory for North Carolina. When Belichick was hired, one of the first questions surrounding him and the coaching game was whether or not he could recruit. It’s something he has never done after being an NFL lifer.

Building a solid staff around Belichick was always going to be a main focus for the Tar Heels. Arguably none could have a bigger impact than Miller if the deal gets done.

North Carolina adds pass rusher via NCAA transfer portal

Former Connecticut edge rusher Pryce Yates will transfer to play for North Carolina in 2025, On3’s Pete Nakos reported. He spent the past four seasons with the Huskies and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

After redshirting as a true freshman, Yates would go on to appear in 32 games over the next three seasons as a starter. He ended his career at UConn with 108 total tackles (29.5 for loss), 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and three passes defended.

Yates missed the first two months of this past season due to injury, returning to appear in the Huskies’ final seven games. He ended the year with 21 total tackles (6.5 for loss), 3.5 sacks while playing mostly on the defensive line.
