RJ Davis describes emotions of being back in NCAA Tournament
North Carolina is back in the NCAA Tournament as a No. 1 seed, and guard RJ Davis is thrilled to be a part of it all.
The team missed the Big Dance a year ago after going 20-13 overall, with an 11-9 mark in the conference. This year the Tar Heels left little doubt, blistering through league play with a 17-3 record.
The team has 27 wins entering the tournament.
“First and foremost, I’m glad to be back,” said Davis, a senior. “Just playing in March, especially in March Madness, is a great feeling. It’s the type of feeling that you’ve always wanted, you’ve dreamed of as a kid. You kind of just watch the half-court shots, game-winners.”
Davis is certainly capable of producing those. He’ll enter the NCAA Tournament as one of the most feared players, an All-American who is averaging 21.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Ashton Jeanty responds to Travis Hunter
He’s playing for his program, but also for the state of North Carolina.
“Just to be back in this position, it feels great not only for us but for the program, just to get Carolina back onto the map,” he said. “We’re hungry to win.”
North Carolina will face No. 16 seed Wagner in its opening game, a heavy, heavy favorite. But anyone that’s been paying attention to college basketball over the last decade knows simply having a No. 1 seed in front of your name is not a first-round guarantee.
Besides that, North Carolina has bigger goals in the NCAA Tournament.
“We set a lot of goals, and one of the goals was to be in March Madness and do well. We’re back,” Davis said. “We’ve just got to do a good job of our preparation, our mindset going into these games because, at the same time, everyone’s hungry and everyone wants to win. So we have to have that in the back of our minds.”
North Carolina will tip off against Wagner at 2:45 p.m. ET on CBS.
