North Carolina guard RJ Davis makes major announcement about basketball future
It’s been quite an offseason for North Carolina after making the national championship in Hubert Davis’ first season. Saturday, the Tar Heels got even more good news.
RJ Davis took to Twitter on Saturday to announce he’s coming back to North Carolina next season. He’s just the latest Tar Heel to announce his return, joining Armando Bacot and Leaky Black in returning to Chapel Hill in 2022-23.
Davis was fourth on the Tar Heels in scoring as a sophomore last season, averaging 13.5 points per game while shooting 42.5% from the field. He started all 39 games and totaled 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the Tar Heels’ Final Four upset of Duke in what turned out to be Mike Krzyzewski’s last game on the sidelines.
Davis’ decision means the Tar Heels are now set to return two of its top four scorers from last season. One remaining question mark is what Caleb Love will do regarding the NBA Draft. The deadline to declare is Sunday at 11:59 p.m. ET, which means a decision will almost certainly be coming soon after Davis announced his next move.

Leaky Black, Armando Bacot announce returns to North Carolina
Bacot was the first to announce his return to the Tar Heels, doing so April 13 in a video on Twitter.
“The University of North Carolina has been great to me,” Bacot said, in part. “Getting the full Tar Heel experience this year, with the fans, and the big wins and the celebrations is something I will never forget. The chance I received to wear the North Carolina jersey and play for that name on the front is special to me. I look forward to coming back in the summers as an alum, playing pick-up with the current guys, and teaching them the same things that we were taught by the former players. That’s my responsibility as part of the Carolina family. But I’m not ready to do that just yet.”
Just days later, Black did the same, tweeting a video revealing his plans for the 2022-2023 season. His time as a Tar Heel isn’t done, and he is coming back to North Carolina for his fifth and final season of eligibility.
