Report: RJ Davis set to return to North Carolina for 2023-24 season
North Carolina will get another massively key piece back for the 2023-24 season, with guard RJ Davis set to return, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander.
Norlander reports that Davis will have an official announcement in the next few days.
Davis averaged a career-best 21.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a senior during the 2022-23 season as he led the Tar Heels to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The veteran backcourt presence will be the anchor of the 2023-24 squad, but the Tar Heels have a lot coming back already. In addition to the news that Seth Trimble will return, North Carolina will also return guard Elliott Cadeau.
Between those three players alone North Carolina returns 33.7 points per game. Cadeau averaged 7.3 points per game, while Trimble averaged 5.2.
But Davis is the straw that stirs the drink.
The experienced guard reached the 20-point mark 23 times during the 2023-24 season, including twice in three NCAA Tournament games. He also dropped a 42-point performance and a 36-point performance during the regular season, capable of absolutely lighting it up.
Davis shot a blistering 39.8% from 3-point range as a senior, the best mark of his career. He made 113 3-point attempts on the year.
Seth Trimble announces return to North Carolina
Another member of the backcourt along with RJ Davis, Seth Trimble, decided to withdraw from the transfer portal and officially announce his return to the Tar Heels, per his Instagram.

He averaged 5.2 points per game in 2023-24, while helping UNC earn a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
The Wisconsin native was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 42 overall player in the country coming out of high school by the On3 Industry rankings.
As a freshman, Seth Trimble averaged 1.8 points and 0.6 assists per game while appearing in all 33 games.
Trimble improved those numbers this past season, appearing in 35 games, with one start. He averaged 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 47 percent from the floor and nearly 42 percent from 3-point range.
