Scott Forbes describes Vance Honeycutt as 'electric'
While his college career has concluded, North Carolina outfielder Vance Honeycutt certainly left his mark during three seasons with the Tar Heels. He certainly left an impression on head coach Scott Forbes.
Speaking at his postgame press conference following North Carolina’s elimination from the 2024 Men’s College World Series on Tuesday, Forbes was asked to reflect on Honeycutt and his career and abilities. Forbes was quick with a one-word description for the star centerfielder.

“From just his ability, I always use the word electric. That’s just what he is: He’s electric,” Forbes said.
Along with being the career home run leader in North Carolina baseball history (64 in three seasons), Honeycutt bumped his average up to .307 in 2024 and set career highs in doubles, home runs, runs and RBI.

But Forbes explained that Honeycutt’s value goes well beyond his bat in the lineup or glove in centerfield.
“And he is the definition of a leader,” Forbes said. “He has integrity. He works. He puts winning first. He’s also just a kid and he plays like that and he plays free and easy. And, man, I’m just going to miss — I’m going to miss not just watching him play but I’m going to miss seeing him every single day. But, man, he’s something else, isn’t he?”
Ultimately, Forbes didn’t need to put to fine a point on the matter.
“He was one of the best I’ve ever coached,” Forbes said.
