The ACC will face another elimination from the College World Series when No. 4 North Carolina meets No. 8 Florida State on Tuesday. That matchup will come with challenges for both sides, whether for the Seminoles or for Scott Forbes and his Tar Heels.

Forbes previewed the matchup with the ‘Noles after entering the loser’s bracket with their defeat on Sunday to Tennessee. He gave credit to their team for what they are this season, especially from an offensive standpoint that will be plenty to handle in a win or go home-type game.

“Really good club,” said Forbes. “Link (Jarrett) is a heck of a coach. They’ve got really good players.”

“They’re extremely offensive. Some high picks in that lineup,” Forbes added. “It will be a big challenge for us but we feel like we’ll be up for that challenge”

UNC also no experience in dealing with that offense this season. As Forbes noted, the two teams didn’t meet in conference play or the ACC Tournament, which means they don’t even have a reference point to look back on from the regular season or league tournament.

“We haven’t played this season. We missed each other. So we’ll look forward to that challenge playing each other,” said Forbes.

Both of these teams lost to the top-seeded Volunteers over the weekend in Omaha. Florida State lost a 12-11 heartbreaker in walk-off fashion on Friday before staying alive with a 7-3 win against Virginia on Sunday. North Carolina opened with a walk-off win of their own over the Cavaliers before falling 6-1 to Tennessee.

The seasons will be on the line for both North Carolina and Florida State come first pitch on Tuesday afternoon. That leaves it between now and then for the Tar Heels to decide how to defend Seminoles’ lineup and survive to set up their own rematch with the Vols.

Forbes reveals his message to UNC after falling to Tennessee in Omaha

On Sunday, North Carolina fell 6-1 to Tennessee in the College World Series. However, due to tournament’s format, the Tar Heels’ season is far from over.

After the game, Scott Forbes revealed his simple message to his team.

“Move on,” Forbes said. “We have a 24-hour rule when we win. But, after we lose, even quicker. You’ve got to walk out and it’s gone. The great thing about this format, I’ve been in it. In 2006, we won the first three, won the first four. Didn’t end up winning it. In 2007, we lost the second game and we made it to the national championship.”

“We have the pitching to bounce back and I told them to keep your heads up. You’re at the College World Series. You have a great opportunity ahead of you. We’ll get back, take a shower, turn your loops in, eat a meal together, get some sleep, and get back to work tomorrow.”
