Tennessee transfer WR Dayton Sneed commits to North Carolina

Former Tennessee wide receiver Dayton Sneed has committed to North Carolina via the NCAA Transfer Portal. Sneed announced the move with a post to Instagram on Tuesday.
Sneed spent two seasons at Tennessee, where he amassed seven appearances. He recorded one catch last season for 12 yards. He also reeled in a single catch during his true freshman season for seven yards.
Dayton Sneed played high school football at Donelson Christian Academy (TN), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. In his senior season, Sneed established school records for receiving yards (1,214) and touchdowns (17) in a single season.
For his efforts, Sneed was named the 2021 TSSAA Div. II-A Offensive Player of the Year and an All-State First-Team selection. With limited collegiate experience, Sneed was the No. 494 wide receiver in On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.
Sneed is the 27th player North Carolina has added via the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. The Tar Heels have experienced significant roster turnover this offseason with the hiring of legendary head coach Bill Belichick.

North Carolina has lost 32 players to the portal. However, it still is ranked No. 31 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Fans are excited to see what Belichick is capable of in his first year at the helm of the program. The 73-year-old head coach is confident he’ll be able to put together a talented roster for the 2025 campaign.
“We want to be a national school, and we are a national school. It is a national brand, and everybody wants to go to Carolina,” Belichick said in February. “We know it’s very difficult to get acceptance into the school as an out of state student, but … we’ve had tremendous interest from student athletes nationally that have great interest in the program.
“We’re everywhere. We’re gonna recruit North Carolina hard, that’s the most important state, but we also want to have a national presence for student athletes that want to come here.”
