Tez Walker taken to local hospital following scary hit vs Georgia Tech
Late in North Carolina‘s loss to Georgia Tech, the Tar Heels were driving to try and take the lead. That’s when quarterback Drake Maye found Tez Walker, who took a shot at the end of the play to his midsection and fumbled the ball away.
Georgia Tech recovered the ball but there was immediate concern for Walker. He stayed on the ground and trainers worked on him on the field for an extended period of time. Despite how big of a moment in the game the play was, it took the air out of Bobby Dodd Stadium.
It was immediately unclear how severe the injury was, but it was reported that Tez Walker was taken to a local hospital for further testing.
The hope there is, obviously, that this was a precautionary measure and that the injury wasn’t as scary as it looked.
Tez Walker has played in four games this season. In those games, he’s been a star for North Carolina, snagging 26 receptions for 391 yards and four touchdowns. That limited playing time comes after he had an extended battle with the NCAA to become eligible this season after transferring for a second time.
For Walker, becoming eligible and getting the opportunity to play this season close to his ailing grandmother and his North Carolina teammates was already an incredible accomplishment.

“It’s heartwarming that she finally got to see me play. She was never able to do that in high school … Just glad she’s able to now,” Walker said. “I just felt blessed to be out there. My teammates have been in my corner since I arrived. Regardless if it’s on the field or off, my teammates are there for me. I’m truly blessed.”
Drake Maye raves over the impact of Tez Walker for North Carolina
Following North Carolina’s win over Miami, Drake Maye praised Tez Walker for the impact he has on the Tar Heels’ offense.
It’s just nice to have him out there, he’s a heck of a player, y’all saw that tonight,” Maye said.
“Like you said, he helps the guys around him, it really wasn’t as much as a showcase tonight because he was the one that had a really big game. But last game was a testament to that, just having guys open and he’s unselfish, he’s tough to bring down, that’s one of the best things about him that people haven’t seen. Even though he’s kind of a leaner guy he’s tough to tackle, y’all saw that.”
