North Carolina head coach Mack Brown revealed all options were being looked at for Tez Walker and the wide receiver’s status with the team.

Last week, On3’s Matt Zenitz reported Walker would be eligible to play in the postseason for the Tar Heels later this fall. However, it doesn’t include a potential ACC Championship Game.

Walker’s lost multiple appeals after his transfer from Kent State but Brown said he has the right people in place fighting for his player.

“I don’t know anything about that,” Brown said this week. “They don’t give out information. So that’s difficult to figure out. And I know that we’ve got some really smart people that care a lot about Tez that are looking at all his options. And that’s just, that’s not gonna change.

“I’ve been so proud of our people. Our trustees, our chancellor, our athletic director. So I’ve pretty much gotten away from it and had to go back and coach, but I know there’s people that are looking for his best interests.”

Walker began his college career at NC Central before transferring to Kent State and eventually North Carolina. However, UNC continually argued he only played at one school since NC Central’s season was canceled due to COVID, while Walker attended the school.

The Tar Heels administration also argued Walker moved back closer to home, rather than play for Kent State to be closer to his sick grandmother.

Walker played two seasons at Kent State and finished with 63 catches, 1,045 yards, 12 touchdowns and 16.6 yards per catch.

As a member of the Class of 2019, Walker was a three-star recruit out of Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 73 overall prospect in the state, the No. 253 wide receiver in the class and the No. 1,774 overall prospect in the class.

“Tez can take the top off the defense,” UNC quarterback Drake Maye said after the spring game. “People often just talk about his speed, but he’s a good route runner. … He goes up and gets it, too. He’s a big receiver. He’s tall. He’s got a big catch radius, so it’s easy to throw to a guy like him.”

It remains to be seen if Walker will be able to play at all during the regular season, but at the very least, he can suit up for a potential postseason game for the Tar Heels.

It’s a start, but UNC and Walker are likely not satisfied.
