Tom Brady reacts to North Carolina hiring Bill Belichick
Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are two legendary NFL figures forever linked together by the success that they had with the New England Patriots. Now, even though it’s been several years since they’ve been together, there still seems to be a connection between the two.
Thanks to that connection, it’s not a surprise that Brady was among the people who publicly congratulated Belichick when it was announced that he would be the next head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
On his Instagram story, Tom Brady shared a message congratulating Bill Belichick on landing the North Carolina job, sharing the graphic that the Tar Heels put out with his own text written over it.
“Congrats Coach,” Brady wrote. “The Tar Heel way is about to become a thing.”
For Belichick, coaching in college is going to be a new journey. He’s been coaching since 1975 and during that time he’s become arguably the best coach the NFL has ever seen, winning eight Super Bowls, including six as the head coach of the Patriots, alongside Brady. However, he has never coached at the college level, making this a new challenge.
Still, based on his NFL career, there are few coaches who have a resume that could compare. Belichick has a record of 302-165 between a stint with the Cleveland Browns and more than two decades with the New England Patriots. His playoff record is 31-13. That gives him the most Super Bowl wins as a head coach and the most playoff wins.

It was Belichick who would draft Brady with the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. He would then boldly stick with Brady in 2001 once Drew Bledsoe was ready to return from an injury. That sparked one of the league’s great dynasties. However, by the end, there was some tension and after playing for the Patriots from 2000 through 2019, Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
While in Tampa Bay, Brady would win another Super Bowl. Meanwhile, the Patriots struggled after losing their Hall of Fame quarterback. A season of Cam Newton and then drafting Mac Jones didn’t work out for Belichick and after Brady left the Patriots only made the playoffs once, losing in the Wild Card round. Their record was 29-38, not counting the playoff loss, once Brady left.
Now, Belichick will look to take his massive knowledge of football to North Carolina where he hopes to build the program into a contender.
