Top targets still on the board for North Carolina Tar Heels
Since Coach Hubert Davis was named North Carolina‘s head coach in April, he and his staff have done a masterful job recruiting top talent around the country.
With the commitment of four-star small forward Tyler Nickels, four-star point guard Seth Trimble, five-star center Jalen Washington and three-star small forward Will Shaver, it’s time to break down who else could commit to UNC and end up in Chapel Hill.
Top recruits UNC is still targeting
Dereck Lively II
Dereck Lively is the No. 2 ranked player in the class of 2022 from Bellefonte, Pa. With two big men already committed to Carolina, the perfect play for Davis would be to bring in Lively as a starter and have a high school All-American big coming off the bench. Since Lively’s visit to North Carolina in June, he has also taken visits to Duke and Kentucky who remain on his list. Lively is the best big in the country. He would get huge minutes if added to the roster.

De’Ante Green
De’Ante Green is a 6-foot-9 three-star power forward from Swannanoa, N.C. Green has his commitment set for Nov. 1. He is also considering ACC rivals Wake Forest, NC State, Virginia, Florida State and NC State. With two big men already committed to North Carolina, it will be hard to convince Green to split minutes. The selling point could be that every successful Carolina team had multiple bigs that played well, such as Isiah Hicks and Kennedy Meeks, Tyler Hansborough and Ed Davis in the few years past.
Cam Whitmore
Cam Whitmore is a 6-foot-6 three-star small forward from Severn, Md. Whitmore was recruited by the Tar Heels late. He plans to take a visit to a game in Chapel Hill early in the season. The fact that North Carolina was late to the recruitment party might not matter, because he has no date set for commitment. Whitmore is also considering Villanova and Illinois.
