Wednesday night’s basketball game between Wake Forest and UNC was put on hold during the second half due to an emergency medical situation regarding a fan in the stands. Play was stopped with 11:15 remaining in the second half with North Carolina leading Wake Forest 61-60. The game was stopped and delayed for several minutes, before both teams were given a two-minute warmup period.

According to Ross Martin of InsideCarolina.com, play was stopped after a police officer was attending to a fan in the stands a few rows up from the court. North Carolina trainer Doug Halverson also checked on the situation. According to Ross Martin, EMT personnel came to the scene and strapped the female fan into some sort of chair device, and she was talking. The fan was then rolled out on the court and out of the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Play eventually resumed and everything was taken care of, per Cory Alexander and Randolph Childress, who were announcing the game for the ACC Network.

The stoppage in play did nothing to slow the momentum of UNC, who outscored the Demon Deacons 51-41 in the second half. North Carolina ended up winning the game 88-79.

UNC was paced by R.J. Davis, who erupted for 22 of his 27 points in the second half. Wake Forest could simply find no answer to stop him. Davis has now scored more than 1,000 points during his career at UNC, making him the 81st player in Tar Heel basketball program history to accomplish the feat. He was scorching hot from deep, connecting on five of eight shots from beyond-the-arc.

UNC big man Armando Bacot once again stuffed the stat sheet with big-time numbers, pouring in 21 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and dishing out five assists.

With the win, North Carolina moved to 10-5 overall this season.
