“It’s crazy,” Honeycutt said. “This team’s special. We watched Lone Survivor tonight, and that’s the [saying], never out of the fight. We took that and ran with it. Ready to get out here tomorrow.”
North Carolina is no stranger to pressure. In an elimination game at the Chapel Hill Regional, the Tar Heels defeated LSU 4-3 in extra innings. On Friday, it was Vance Honeycutt’s turn to step under the bright lights.
“It’s awesome,” Honeycutt said. “You’re just competing. Whenever that happens, it just doesn’t feel like anything. I just got a good pitch to hit, and was fortunate to put a good swing on it.”
North Carolina won’t have long to celebrate its victory. On Saturday, the Tar Heels will square off against West Virginia at 8 p.m. ET, this time with a spot in the Men’s College World Series on the line. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
