North Carolina is once again in a dogfight on the road against a Sun Belt team. Last week, the Tar Heels engaged in a 124-point shootout with Appalachian State on the Mounatineers’ home field. They barely escaped there with a win. Now, on the road vs. Georgia State, the Heels are on their heels again, as GSU opened up the third quarter with 18 straight points to take a 28-21 lead.

But just a few plays later, North Carolina struck from the opposite side of the 50-yard-line to even the game back up at 28-apiece. It was freshman running back Omarion Hampton who took his eighth carry of the game for a 58-yard touchdown. Check out the speed on the young fella:

Huge play from Hampton to even this thing back up. Never a dull moment with Carolina football this season!

Four-star running back Omarion Hampton of Clayton, NC was the nation’s No. 142 overall prospect, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. On3 ranks Hunter as the No. 9 running back overall and the fourth-ranked player in North Carolina.

Drake Maye on Hampton’s Week 1 performance

UNC quarterback Drake Maye had an impressive showing in his first start for the Tar Heels as he led them to a 56-24 win over Florida A&M in week 0. But freshman running back Omarion Hampton also had a great day as he lead the Tar Heels in rushing, Maye spoke about Hamptons performance following their big win.

“Omarion, we call him Big O, he’s a good player. He’s still kind of trying to figure out kind of what to do, sometimes I’ll have to tell him which way the play is going, but when he gets the ball in his hands it’s good for our team. I think y’all saw it tonight, so just gotta get him the ball,” Maye said.
