2023 QB Finn McElroy finding ways to chase college football dream
Minneapolis (Minn.) junior quarterback Finn McElroy has to get creative. While many of his counterparts in the south throw in the sunshine, McElroy toils in a covered facility surrounded by snow.
He’s learned leadership. The circumstances have required it.McElroy has his eyes on the college level.
“It’s so hard up because everywhere is in the dome,” McElroy said. “Us quarterbacks are the head of the team, so we’ve got to step up to make sure we’re getting as much work done as possible.”
He’s seen some interest from schools like Minnesota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Yale and South Dakota.
McElroy is midwest bred. He has family all over the region. The home-state Gophers have checked in and have shown interest.

“I’ve got family in the midwest,” McElroy said. “I love those people and I don’t get to see them much. I have family at both schools, so it means a lot. They’re a football family, so I’d love to put on for them.”
The quarterback factory North Dakota State is also intriguing to McElroy.
“You see Carson Wenz, you see Trey Lance and they’ve all come from around my area,” McElroy said. “I feel like when I have the coaches that coached these two top-five picks, that could propel me harder just to put on for those guys in my area.”
McElroy carries the midwest chip. He feels there’s a bit of an underestimation for prospects in his region.
“I feel it on our 7-on-7 team, we’re always slept on,” McElroy said. “We always try to work harder to prove people wrong. We’re always the ones who work for our goals or we’re done. We instill in ourselves that we have to do more or not going to get offers.”
