Chandler Morris injury: North Texas QB helped off field during game vs. Tulane
Chandler Morris, the former TCU Horned Frogs quarterback who’s been leading the North Texas Mean Green in 2024, unfortunately injured his shoulder in the third quarter of a dogfight with the Tulane Green Wave.
Morris was sacked as the third quarter was coming to a close, and he stayed down after the play. He had to be helped off the field by the North Texas medical staff, heading straight for the blue tent. ESPN’s Lauren Sisler provided an update as the Mean Green offense returned to the field.
“It’s so unfortunate that Morris is out of the game, dealing with that right shoulder,” she reported. “Certainly in a lot of pain coming off the field. He was holding it, it was immobile. They put him in the tent here, so we’ll keep an eye on him and see how things shake out the rest of the game.”
In Morris’ stead, Drew Mestemaker has taken over at quarterback. At the time of his injury, the former Horned Frogs star had completed 24-of-35 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns.

On the season, Morris has been majorly impressive, leading the Mean Green to a record of 5-2. He’s accumulated 2,424 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in his first season with North Texas, after spending the previous three with TCU.
During their last game against Memphis, North Texas came up just short, falling by eight points. Morris passed for over 400 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough.
At the time of his injury, Morris was trying to lead a comeback drive, with North Texas down 13, but it doesn’t seem as if it’s meant to be in Denton this afternoon.
UPDATE: Chandler Morris returned to the game after missing one series, with North Texas down 21 in the fourth quarter, evidently fighting through the pain to try and bring the Mean Green back.
