At Northwestern games, everyone in the student section gets a free sandwich if the opposing team misses eight free throws. Saturday, it happened.

Minnesota had missed seven free throws when Jaden Henley shot his second attempt with 8:46 to go. Welsh-Ryan Arena got louder and louder as he got ready to shoot, knowing what was on the line if he missed.

The shot rimmed out — and the crowd went crazy.

“Go crazy, Evanston! Go crazy!” the announcer said on the Big Ten Network broadcast.

Northwestern fans had plenty of reasons to go crazy as the Wildcats defeated Minnesota 81-61 to put themselves in a tie for second place in the Big Ten with Rutgers. It marks their third straight victory after two games had to be canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the program, and Chris Collins’ group now turns its attention to the delayed matchup against Iowa on Tuesday.

Iowa vs. Northwestern rescheduled for Jan. 31

After COVID-19 issues within the Northwestern program forced the postponement of its Jan. 18 matchup with Iowa, a reschedule date has been set. The two teams will square off Jan. 31, the programs announced last week.

Northwestern reportedly only had six available players for the game, Stadium’s Jeff Goodman said Tuesday, which is why the game had to be postponed. It was unclear whether or not the game would end up getting made up, but the two teams worked with the Big Ten office to find a new date.

The Wildcats and Hawkeyes were supposed to square off at Carver-Hawkeye Arena Jan. 18 at 9 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network. Iowa made the news official in a press release and confirmed the plans to work with the league on a new date for the game.

Tip-off for Tuesday’s rescheduled game is set for 9 p.m. ET.
