Richland (N.J.) St. Augustine Prep EDGE Denis Jaquez has decommitted from Northwestern, he announced on Sunday.

Jaquez is the No. 913 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 60 EDGE and the No. 16 prospect in New Jersey.

“First off I want to start off by thanking God for allowing me to be in this situation in life,” Jaquez wrote on Twitter. “I want to thank Coach Fitz and Coach Long and the entire Northwestern staff for giving me the opportunity to continue both my academic and athletic careers. I have no doubt in my mind that they will have a successful season next year and they continue to do great things. I’ve grown very close to the Class of 22 commits and I wish them the best. With that being said, I would like to announce that my recruitment is 100 percent open!!! I want to take this time to make sure that the school I will be attending is best for my future and my family. Thank you again to the Northwestern community for all they have done.”

The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder chose the Wildcats in June over offers from Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Maryland and others. He is coming off a visit to Syracuse this weekend. And the Orange look to be the likely favorite to land him.

With Denis Jaquez’s decommitment, Northwestern drops one spot to No. 46 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. The Wildcats have 14 prospects committed, including four-stars Reggie Fleurima and Anto Saka.
