2024 QB CJ Carr commits to Notre Dame
Four-star quarterback CJ Carr of Saline (Mich.) High announced his commitment to Notre Dame Thursday afternoon. The 6-foot-3, 195 pounder chose the Fighting Irish over Michigan, Michigan State, Georgia, LSU, and Wisconsin.
Carr spoke to On3 to discuss his pledge to the Irish.
CJ Carr explains Notre Dame commitment
South Bend and the Notre Dame campus impressed Carr from the first time he visited. He explained how that factored into his decision.
“Ever since the first visit I went on to Notre Dame, I really fell in love with the place,” CJ Carr said of his commitment to the Irish. “Coach Rees and I have had a very good relationship throughout my whole recruiting process, but I have also developed a really good relationship with Coach Freeman too. I love what Coach Freeman is doing with the program and I am excited to see what he does this fall!”
The way Notre Dame can set Carr up after football also impressed.
“The atmosphere there is different,” Carr said. “I love the coaching staff, the players and the culture in south bend. I also love what Coach Freeman preaches to his team. Notre Dame is not just for college, it is for the rest of your life!”
Carr has obvious connections to Michigan with his grandfather once being the head coach of the Wolverines. He discussed if that had any factor in his recruitment.
“I have never felt any pressure to go to any school,” Carr said. “My family has always said they will support my decision. Obviously, Michigan will always hold a close place to my family’s heart, but I never could see myself going to school so close to my hometown. I have always wanted to leave home and Notre Dame is the perfect spot for me!”

CJ Carr Scouting Summary
“Polished, productive quarterback with the ability to make plays in and out of the offense’s structure,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Has an easy, natural release. Gets the ball out quick and can deliver from off platform. Makes small window throws against tight coverage on Friday nights. Has good feet and shows reactive quickness in the pocket. Has the quickness to escape the pass rush. Makes some improvisational plays.”
“Had a productive junior season, completing 64 percent of his passes for nearly 2,700 yards, 28 touchdowns against 4 interceptions in 10 games. Developed and polished in the camp setting. Measured around 6-foot-2, 190 pounds prior to the 2022 season. Shows a good arm at this stage, but has room to add velocity to his intermediate throws as he continues to develop as a high school quarterback.”
He ranks as the No. 23 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally-weighted industry generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting services. The 2024 prospect also tabs in at the No. 5 quarterback and the No. 1 player in the state of Michigan.
