Beaux Collins injury update: Latest on Notre Dame WR ahead of National Championship
Notre Dame wide receiver Beaux Collins said he is “100%” going into the College Football Playoff National Championship game against Ohio State.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Collins ramped up in practice lately after playing just seven snaps in the Orange Bowl against Penn State. It’ll be an important piece for the Fighting Irish on Monday.
“About three days ago it started to truly feel better,” Collins said. “I was able to run, do some skips and things like that.”
Collins also stressed the importance of the downfield passing game as Ohio State prepares for the run.
“We got to take some shots downfield to loosen ’em up a little bit, and it’s the most important thing in this game for sure,” Collins said.
This season, Collins has 37 catches foe 458 yards, three touchdowns and 12.4 yards per catch. Over the course of his career with Clemson and Notre Dame, he has 128 catches for 1,748 yards, 14 touchdowns and 13.7 yards per catch.

This comes after Marcus Freeman said last weekend that Collins’ status would depend on how well he’s able to return to practice this week from the strain on that calf.
“Beaux is still healing from – he had a calf strain,” said Freeman. “So he’ll work back into practice here in the next couple days. But I hope that – as long as he progresses, he’ll be good to go for the game but we’ve got to make sure that he progresses as we go through this week.”
During two appearances in the CFP, Collins has caught three passes for 31 yards and a score. The touchdown was a big one too as it came at the end of the first half against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and pushed their lead to a double-digit margin that they’d never give up in their quarterfinal.
Collins would then not record any statistics in seven snaps during their semifinal in the Orange Bowl against Penn State.
