Beaux Collins injury update: Latest on Notre Dame WR's status vs. Ohio State in national championship
Notre Dame WR Beaux Collins is currently questionable to play in the national title game next week.
The Fighting Irish released information this afternoon heading into their matchup with Ohio State on Monday. That included their injury report with Collins listed on it as questionable for now due to his left calf. However, Collins was also labeled as a starting receiver on the Irish’s depth chart for the championship as well.
This comes after Marcus Freeman said over this weekend that Collins’ status would depend on how well he’s able to return to practice this week from the strain on that calf.
“Beaux is still healing from – he had a calf strain,” said Freeman. “So he’ll work back into practice here in the next couple days. But I hope that – as long as he progresses, he’ll be good to go for the game but we’ve got to make sure that he progresses as we go through this week.”
Collins has been Notre Dame’s second-leading receiver over this fall during his first year in South Bend after transferring in from Clemson. He has posted 37 receptions for 458 yards and three scores this season as a graduate. That’s the second-most catches and yardage in their corps behind only TE Mitchell Evans and WR Jaden Greathouse respectively while he’s tied with Evans for the team-lead in receiving scores. Those are also the second-most or tied for the second-most in those statistics for him in his collegiate career.

During two appearances in the CFP, Collins has caught three passes for 31 yards and a score. The touchdown was a big one too as it came at the end of the first half against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl and pushed their lead to a double-digit margin that they’d never give up in their quarterfinal.
Collins would then not record any statistics in seven snaps during their semifinal in the Orange Bowl against Penn State.
Collins still has six days to be fully back in time for kickoff against the Buckeyes in Atlanta. For now, though, he’s questionable for the title game while still dealing with his calf this week.
