Benjamin Morrison injury update: Marcus Freeman addresses rehab plan for Notre Dame CB
Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison underwent successful hip surgery this week, head coach Marcus Freeman announced on Thursday. Early in the week it was announced Morrison was out for the season with an injury.
Freeman added that Morrison is already beginning his recovery. Rehab for hip surgeries often takes on a rapid pace to prevent any inhibitions to walking. And when Morrison gets a chance, Freeman said, they anticipate the injured defensive star will still be very involved with the team.
“Once he’s able to get back around our guys, his leadership skills will continue to show,” Freeman said.
The plan, Freeman said, is to keep Morrison involved on the sidelines both during practices and games.
In six games this season, Morrison had 20 total tackles and four pass deflections. Over the course of his Norte Dame career since 2022, Morrison had 84 tackles, five tackles for loss, nine interceptions and 18 pass deflections.
As a member of the Class of 2022, Morrison was a four-star recruit out of Phoenix (Ari.) Brophy College Preparatory, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 4 overall prospect in the state, the No. 37 cornerback in the class and the No. 342 overall prospect in the class.

The Fighting Irish improved to 5-1 on the year with a 49-7 win over Stanford Saturday, even with the loss of Morrison. Riley Leonard led the way with 229 yards passing and three touchdowns.
Jeremiyah Love added 53 yards and a touchdown on six carries. After being tied 7-7 in the first quarter, Notre Dame ran away with it.
“So really proud of this group,” head coach Marcus Freeman said. “Enjoy tonight. Enjoy earning that Legends Trophy, which is a reflection, as I told them, of team glory. That’s what that trophy represents is a bunch of people committing to something bigger than themselves.
“Proud of them for that. We’ll get back to work on Sunday and start preparing for our next opponent.”
