Charlotte (N.C.) Charlotte Christian four-star EDGE Bryce Young has announced his commitment to Notre Dame. He chose the Fighting Irish over Michigan, Tennessee and USC.

Young is the No. 315 overall prospect and No. 21 EDGE in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 10 player in North Carolina.

On3 rates Young higher than other recruiting services, according to the Industry Comparison. Per the 2024 On300, he is the No. 236 overall prospect and the No. 8 player in North Carolina.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound pass rusher has visited South Bend multiple times. He most recently saw Notre Dame on April 22 for the Blue-Gold Game.

“It was seeing other recruits,” Young told Mike Singer of Blue and Gold about his highlights of the trip. “I got to hang out with the other guys in my class. I talked to coach (Marcus) Freeman and reconnected with all the coaches. It had been a while (since I visited).”

Young, whose last visit to the Fighting Irish before this month was on Jan. 14, is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive lineman and Notre Dame alum Bryant Young. He played 14 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.

“He’s pretty quiet (during Notre Dame visits), but if he sees something that he experienced, then he’ll say something,” Young told Singer on Jan. 15. “But he’s letting me go through the process and see what I think about it for myself.”

Notre Dame is off to a strong start in the 2024 cycle

Young is now the highest-ranked defender in Notre Dame’s 2024 recruiting class. The Fighting Irish’s group is led by a pair of top-50 recruits in Saline (Mich.) four-star quarterback CJ Carr and Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South four-star wide receiver Cam Williams.

Freeman and Co. also have top-300 commitments in Warner Robins (Ga.) four-star wide receiver Isiah Canion, Hannibal (Mo.) four-star running back Aneyas Williams and Malvern (Penn.) Malvern Prep four-star interior offensive lineman Peter Jones. Following Young’s pledge, Notre Dame’s class ranks No. 8 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Two other Fighting Irish targets are announcing their commitments in the coming days: Chandler (Ariz.) three-star safety Kennedy Urlacher on May 1 and Charlotte (N.C.) Charlotte Christian four-star wide receiver Micah Gilbert — Young’s high school teammate — on May 2. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Fighting Irish have commanding leads to land both Gilbert (94.5%) and Urlacher (97.9%).
