All Notre Dame does is continue to win College Football Playoff games and all Cam Newton does is continue to doubt how good the Fighting Irish really are.

Newton has said since the CFP got underway that Notre Dame doesn’t belong because of its schedule. He once again argued that Friday morning after the Fighting Irish won their third playoff game in a row.

“First off, coach Marcus Freeman is a great coach. Like, I do not want that not to be mentioned,” Cam Newton said on ESPN First Take. “But, I’m ready for Notre Dame to play in a conference.

“Like, it’s almost like that person that’s sitting in the playground who says, ‘Nah, nah, nah. Y’all hash it out, and when y’all knock each other out I’ma step in the forefront.’”

Notre Dame has piled up a long list of ranked wins on its way to the national championship game, but Newton isn’t impressed with who the Fighting Irish have beaten along the way.

“I see a stat that says they are 7-0 vs. ranked opponents,” the former NFL MVP said. “Now that can be a very subjective and real skewed statistic. Those teams are as follows – Texas A&M, Louisville, Navy, Indiana, Army, Georgia without Carson Beck and Penn State.”

Newton did at least admit that he is impressed with the Notre Dame defense. But the fact that the Fighting Irish didn’t play in a conference and win a conference is a knock on Notre Dame’s resume, according to Newton.

“So with that I’m not trying to rain on their parade, because their defense is legit,” he said. “But I’m saying the road to where they’ve gotten, that’s my questionable mark.”

Cam Newton has been blasting Notre Dame for weeks, stating after the win over Georgia that the Fighting Irish only won because the Bulldogs were banged up. He added that it was “the weakest University of Georgia team that we’ve seen in the last five years.”

After beating Penn State on Thursday in the Orange Bowl, Newton still has doubts about how good Notre Dame really is.

Marcus Freeman’s team will have one final chance to prove how good it really is when Notre Dame plays in the national championship game against the winner of the Cotton Bowl between Texas and Ohio State.
