Desmond Ridder makes bold claim about Notre Dame crowd on Saturday
Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder was warned how loud Notre Dame would be on Saturday, before stating that it won’t be for long. As WLWT’s Brandon Saho detailed, Ridder was speaking with his offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock about the upcoming game when he made his bold claim.
Desmond Ridder plans to silence Notre Dame
The No. 7 Cincinnati Bearcats will be traveling to play No. 9 Notre Dame on Saturday and there’s little question about how loud the home crowd will be during the game. For Ridder, the question lies in how long the crowd will last if his team takes a lead.
“Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder said offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock warned him about how loud Notre Dame would be on Saturday,” reported Saho. “Ridder’s response? ‘I told him it shouldn’t be loud for too long.”
After two games decided by only a field goal to start the season, Notre Dame has begun to perform the way they expected to with a big 41-13 win over Wisconsin. Despite their quarterback Jack Coan leaving the game with an injury, they’re anticipating that he’ll be ready for Saturday.
On Cincinnati’s side, they enter the game 3-0 coming off a 38-24 win over Indiana. Ridder threw for 210 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the win.
Jack Coan injury situation
Earlier this week, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly provided an update on Coan’s status, as well as his hold on the team’s starting quarterback job.
“The quarterback situation is such that if Jack [Coan] is healthy, Jack would be our starter,” Kelly stated in his Monday press conference.

Additionally, Kelly added an update on quarterback Tyler Buchner. While he hasn’t supplanted Coan as the team’s starting quarterback, Buchner’s ability has kept him on the field when he’s healthy.
“Tyler felt really good yesterday in treatment,” stated Kelly. “He declared himself feeling really good, so that’s good for us. That allows us to get him back into the mix.
“We’ll see when we get on the field tomorrow — we’re not on the field today so I really can’t give you an assessment of how he is relative to throwing the football. I think tomorrow we’ll make the decision on how he feels and how he looks.”
Kelly continued: “If he looks good, he’ll be our starter (Coan) and Tyler Buchner will play. Like we had before we went into this game. If he can’t, then Drew [Pyne] is ready to go — but it appears Tyler will be in pretty good shape to play for us. So, the two quarterbacks is the situation — it just depends on what two.”
