WATCH: Ed Orgeron makes bold statement on Notre Dame coaching staff
A surprise visitor showed up in South Bend on Tuesday, with former LSU Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron. Spending time with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program, Coach O showed up with his three sons, who are in the beginning stages of getting into coaching.
When giving a motivational speech to the team, Orgeron made a bold statement regarding the Notre Dame coaching staff. He said thanks to the staff Marcus Freeman has built heading into Year One, the Fighting Irish are going to win a national championship. Orgeron made it clear he did not know when it would happen but was confident they would eventually raise the College Football Playoff trophy.
“What a tremendous, tremendous university you have here,” Orgeron said. “What a great coach and great coaching staff you have. Some of the best players in the country are right here in this group. I don’t know when it’s going to happen but with this staff, this team — you’re going to win it all. You’re going to pick up the trophy. When it’s going to happen? I don’t know, I can’t tell you that.

“How bad do you want it? You don’t have to wait for it,” Orgeron continued. “Why does somebody else need to be better than y’all? I’ll tell you what. Physicality, use it. The other team’s fear, use it. Good luck to you guys. I know you have a lot of things to do. Coach, thanks for letting me talk to this team. I am fired up. I can’t wait to see you guys play. I’m going to be pulling for you guys but remember this. This is your team. This is your brother you’re fighting for.”

Orgeron, who is clearly a big fan of Freeman and what is building at Notre Dame says he will be watching the team closely this season. With a season opener against the Ohio State Buckeyes, it will be a quick test to see how the Fighting Irish will perform, at least during the 2022 season.
