Georgia Tech is expected to hire former Notre Dame wide receivers coach Del Alexander as its new wide receivers coach, sources tell On3’s Matt Zenitz. Alexander worked with Georgia Tech’s offensive coordinator Chip Long at both Notre Dame and Arizona State over the past decade, adding a bit of familiarity to Long’s offensive coaching staff.

Alexander has been with the Fighting Irish since the 2017 season. He’s coached in two College Football Playoff national semifinal games (2018, 2020). He also played a critical in the development of 2020 second-round pick Chase Claypool (Steelers) and 2019 third-round pick Miles Boykin (Ravens). Claypool led the Irish and recorded career-highs with 66 receptions, 1,037 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns in his final season in 2019.

Before his time in South Bend, Alexander coached at Arizona State for five years (2012-16), including four as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach and one as the tight ends coach.

Mel Kiper Jr. moves Kyle Hamilton up in his latest mock draft

Hamilton, who was Kiper’s No. 4 pick in his first two mock drafts this offseason, is now projected to go No. 2 overall to the Detroit Lions. The former Fighting Irish standout increased his draft stock tremendously at the NFL Combine and Kiper reflected that in his latest mock.

He also had some high praise for Hamilton during his Mock Draft 3.0 reveal special.

“At two, Kyle Hamilton is a unique, rare talent,” Kiper said. “You can’t compare him to anybody else. He is who he is. He had eight career interceptions. Only appeared in seven games this year because of the injury or [he’d have had] maybe double-digit INTs. I think for what they need, a foundation piece, a chess piece that you can move around.

“You still got to beat Aaron Rodgers in that division. He ain’t going away. He’s still a Packer. So I think Kyle Hamilton makes a lot of sense. He is one of the top two or three players, some think the best player, in this draft.”
