Jeremiyah Love injury update: Notre Dame RB shares latest on status after leaving Sugar Bowl
As Notre Dame rolls through the College Football Playoff, they have done so without a full effective Jeremiyah Love. The Irish running back was working through the flu against Indiana before tweaking his knee Thursday in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia. Others around Love have picked up the slack, moving them two wins away from a national championship.
Love provided the latest on himself following the game, saying the injury is similar to what he suffered against USC. Even so, he expects to be ready for the CFP semifinal against Penn State despite only having seven days between games.
“I asked Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love about his injured knee after the Sugar Bowl,” Tyler Horka of On3’s BWI said via X. “He said he tweaked it like he did at USC. Love seemed to recover well after that but he has less time to do so now. Still, asked if he’ll be good for the Orange Bowl, he gave a confident nod. Yes.”
Love only had seven carries against UGA, going for 19 yards. Riley Leonard wound up being Notre Dame’s leading rusher on the afternoon with 80 yards on 14 attempts. From a running back perspective, Jadarian Price picked up the slack at 10 carries and 37 yards.

“You saw running back Jeremiyah Love limping on the sideline, favoring his right knee,” ESPN’s Molly McGrath said during the broadcast. “He tried cutting side to side, was in visible discomfort. So they put a hard brace on that right knee. You can tell he’s still bothered by the injury, but he’s doing everything he can to return. I’m told he will try to go, and he told us he does not need to be 100% to effective.”
Love did get back in the game after spending some time in the medical tent.
Notre Dame will have around a week to get everybody healthy ahead of the Orange Bowl against Penn State. Love might be the most important of the bunch, proving to be a big-time factor already in the postseason. Going up against a front like the Nittany Lions also proves the importance of having a one-two punch.
Love himself believes he will be good to go but still a storyline to watch before heading to Miami.
