Whether Tommy Rees would stay at Notre Dame or join Brian Kelly at LSU has been one of the biggest questions for the Fighting Irish. Well, the Notre Dame offensive coordinator emphatically answered the question on Wednesday.
To announce he wouldn’t be leaving the Fighting Irish, Rees first gave a speech to the players he cares about so much. Then, he took to Twitter to use the absolute perfect gif.
Rees used the help of Jordan Belfort from The Wolf of Wall Street to drive his point home. In the scene, Belfort – played by Leonardo DiCaprio – tells his company that he’s not leaving. Tommy Rees isn’t leaving Notre Dame.
Tommy Rees may have a head coaching gig in his future. Greener pastures may be on the way for the former Fighting Irish starting quarterback. However, he has unfinished business with his team before he can leave South Bend.
Rees: ‘This is where my heart is.’
Tommy Rees’ gif use was impressive, but his heartfelt speech to Notre Dame players shows how much he cares about the program. In a heartfelt message, the former Irish quarterback and current offensive coordinator shared his honest thoughts.
“I love you guys. I love this place and I believe we can win a national championship here,” Rees said, speaking to the Notre Dame team.
“I’m committed to doing everything I can to get to that point.”
The entire speech can be found in the above video, but Rees made a point to tell the entire squad that his love for Notre Dame. Moreover, the team and his belief the Irish are on the cusp of winning it all played the biggest factor in his decision to stay in South Bend.

“This is where my heart is,” Rees added.
“My heart is with you guys, I care too much to leave this place. This is where I want to be and this is where I want to win a national championship. I wanted to be able to tell you guys in person.”
After multiple reports surfaced that Brian Kelly spoke to the players for less than two minutes, didn’t take a single question and bolted for the door, it’s clear Rees was making an effort to give comfort to a group of young men who have faced a barrage of emotions as of late.
“Now some of you guys might be happy. Some of you guys might be pissed,” Tommy Rees said jokingly and laughs were heard throughout the room. “The most important thing for me was to be upfront and that you guys were confident going forward.”
Notre Dame may have lost Brian Kelly, but the Fighting Irish are in good hands with coaches like Tommy Rees remaining in South Bend.
