Notre Dame football is one of the most storied programs in college athletics history, and new head coach Marcus Freeman expects that trend to continue under his new regime in 2022. When asked to fire off his recruiting pitch on a recent episode of ESPN’s Always College Football, the Fighting Irish head man did not disappoint.

“I think one is that you have to take a deep dive into what this university offers young people,” Freeman said. “And that’s what I like to spend a lot of time showing is that, you know, if you want to talk about national championships and NFL development – that’s important to a lot of kids we recruited, and we will – and we can and I think we have the evidence to back it up … I truly believe having the opportunity to come here and and maximize your football opportunities and maximize who you are as a football player.”

“But, you also [have] the chance to maximize those academics in the life after football. It truly makes this place second to none.”

Freeman spent as much time raving about his football program as he did on the educational aspect of the University as well – something parents of recruits should take note of regarding the man they’re trusting their son’s collegiate career with.

“But what makes the University of Notre Dame different is is the education in the university and what this place will do for you long after you’re done playing football,” Freeman explained. “And so, I tell our staff that we have to believe that, we have to believe in what this place offers young people and we have to sell it because that’s what makes us different … You get here and you say, ‘okay, take a deep dive into this place and really take out football for right now.’

“Look at what makes this place so special – look at the admittance rates, look at the people they truly admit into this university, you’ll realize that it is five-star students all over the place – and I tell our players all the time is that you take out athletes, you’re getting five-star students into this place … What that will do for you in terms of when you’re done playing football? Because that’s a guarantee in life and this place will truly open so many doors for you when you’re done.
