Marcus Freeman reveals special aspect on senior day following blowout win
For senior day, Notre Dame sent off their seniors in glorious fashion. The Fighting Irish not only pummelled Boston College but shut them out by a score of 44-0. After the game, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman gave his thoughts on his team’s performance and what he’s learned about his team in his first season at the helm.
“It was awesome to see the way they came off the second half,” said Freeman. “They came out in the first half and did a really good job, but the challenge was to come out in the second half and play with the same intensity. And it was good to see them do it.
“They’re resilient. And that’s what this university attracts; resilient people that no matter what the outcome or situation occurs, they’ll continue to battle. That’s why I love being the head coach here, and I love this place; I love these kids.”
Freeman had to endure a tough start to his coaching tenure at Notre Dame. His first game ever as head coach actually came last year and the Fiesta Bowl, where the Fighting Irish came up short against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. This year to begin this season, the Irish started off 0-2 after losing their opening game to Ohio State, followed by a surprise loss to Marshall at home. Since then, Notre Dame has looked impressive for much of the season, including beating both of the top teams in the ACC, North Carolina and Clemson, by double digits.

Freeman on what game meant for seniors
Freeman’s Notre Dame squad might have enjoyed this victory a little bit more, given the weather conditions. Before and after the game, there were light flurries of snow. In the middle of the game, shortly after halftime, there was a heavy amount of snowfall, giving the matchup a winter wonderland appeal.
“It’s a little bit chilly, but it’s a lot of fun. They are big kids. They’re out there being big kids, and we got a chance to get everybody in the game today and all the seniors. That means a lot, and for them to play their last game and get a chance to get on this field; that means a lot.”
Up next for Notre Dame is another huge matchup but this time on the West Coast as they head to California to take on their rivals USC. Entering into Saturday, USC is ranked No. 7 in the nation and only has one loss to their record. Look for Notre Dame and Freeman to add one more to the Trojans’ loss column next weekend.
